About Victoria Food Not Bombs

We are a non-hierarchical group of volunteers, serving free food for everyone in public spaces. We know that much food is wasted along the value chains of capitalist food production while many cannot afford to eat properly.

we oppose this unjust, illogical and unsustainable system of food production and try to redistribute some of the food going to waste. We do accept all donations gratefully; nonetheless, it is our goal to be as vegan, local, and organic as possible when preparing meals from donated food.

We also try to be as fossil-fuel and emission free as possible; for instance by delivering our servings by bicycle and composting kitchen scraps. We also try to avoid the use of money as much as possible. We believe that food products should be available to all.

We are aware that we live in a country that is founded on colonialism, genocide, and the occupation of indigenous lands. Internationally “Canada” presents itself as a “peacemaker”, while squandering natural resource and tax money for militarization, profiting from weapons exports, and contribution to a culture of war in international politics.

On the streets we see homelessness, hunger, and discrimination against the poor which disproportionately affects BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) and LGBTQ2S (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Two-Spirit) peoples.

Food not bombs is making this connection and supports free food and housing for everyone.
